Young Authors Writing Contest 2021 - Cancelled!
The Wyoming State Literacy Association (WSLA) board members along with the state’s Young Authors coordinator have, through emails and Zoom meetings, been discussing the Wyoming Young Authors Writing Contest. We discussed trying to arrange YAs in a digital platform, however, we felt this format would add more work to educators in already stressful times as all entries would need to be scanned and submitted digitally. Educators are exhausted and we didn’t feel this was a good option at this time. Coordinating this event in these unstable times is a huge challenge.
At our December 7th, WSLA board meeting, we decided to cancel the 2021 Young Authors Writing Contest. This decision was made with very heavy hearts as we know this will disappoint many students, families, and educators. We strongly encourage individual school districts to hold local Young Author events and honor the writers in some way as one means to continue to encourage writing with our young folks throughout Wyoming. If any district needs ideas of how to conduct a local contest, please contact a WSLA board member and we will be happy to provide some guidance.
